Global Youth Institute

Proud to Partner

Do you have a passion for global food security?

Every year, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture sends two high school students with an interest in global food security and agriculture to represent Saskatchewan at the Global Youth Institute in Des Moines, Iowa from October 16-19, 2019. The selected students, along with their teacher or mentor representatives, receive an all-expenses-paid trip to this prestigious event.

About the Global Youth Institute:

Each year, around 200 exceptional high school students from across the United States and other countries are selected to participate in the three-day Global Youth Institute hosted by the World Food Prize Foundation.

At the Global Youth Institute, students will have the opportunity to:

·Interact with Nobel and World Food Prize Laureates and discuss pressing food security and agricultural issues with international experts

·
Connect with other student leaders from around the world to share ideas, identify solutions and build lasting friendships

·
Tour cutting-edge industrial and research facilities

·
Take part in symposium discussions with global leaders in science, industry and policy.

How to apply (DEADLINE EXTENDED):

Apply by completing the registration form below by April 29, 2019. AITC-SK will review applications and select two students to attend the Global Youth Institute. The two selected students will be notified by May 3rd.

The two selected students will be required to write a five-page essay on the critical food security issue they highlighted in their application to AITC-SK, under the supervision of their teacher or mentor. At the Global Youth Institute, each student will present a brief overview of their paper to a group of peers and experts. The selected students and their teachers or mentors will be required to share their experience via social media during the event, as well as provide an article summarizing their experience to AITC-SK upon their return.
