GRADES 3 TO 5 | Spring 2022
Seed Survivor is a free, curriculum-based, agricultural program for elementary students with a particular focus on Grades 3 and 4 outcomes. After participating in the Seed Survivor program, students will understand that plants need water, light, healthy soil, and nutrients to survive. They will learn about where food comes from and the importance of agriculture in their daily lives. All students get to plant a sunflower seed to take home and grow!
New Program Options for 2022!
Option #1: Mobile Classroom - fully booked
Please note: the Mobile Classroom option is limited to schools within 100km of Saskatoon for the Spring 2022 Season.
Seed Survivor Mobile is housed in a 36-foot trailer unit that travels to pre-registered schools, offering an immersive, interactive experience. Students learn about plant needs and soil nutrients through an engaging presentation and interactive games. The mobile classroom offers dynamic facilitators, multi-media games, a sunflower planting station, talking walls and much more! The mobile classroom is physically accessible, distance-friendly, and includes an entry and exit door.
Option #2: Classroom Presentation
For classrooms outside of the greater-Saskatoon region, we are pleased to offer an alternative face-to-face option. An AITC-SK team member will bring all the fun of the Seed Survivor program right to your classroom! Students will participate in the engaging Seed Survivor presentation, exploring plant needs and soil nutrients, learn about local agriculture, then plant a sunflower to take home!
Option #3: Virtual Presentation and Classroom Kit
This new innovative option was created in response to COVID-19 and has been well received in classrooms across North America. The virtual Seed Survivor experience includes a hands-on learning kit and web-based presentation video, flexible lesson plans and online student activities.
