GRADES 10 TO 12  |  November 2024

Edible Enterprises is a NEW program for Grades 10 to 12 that aims to inspire entrepreneurial interest and prepare students for careers in the food industry. Students will learn from Saskatchewan agri-food entrepreneurs and gain hands-on cooking experience while exploring the food product development process from farm, through business and marketing, all the way to the consumer.

This program will prepare students to succeed in the dynamic food product industry. Through hands-on learning, real-world problem-solving, and direct interaction with industry professionals, students will:

  • build critical thinking, entrepreneurial, and practical cooking skills;
  • learn about food production, processing, and marketing;
  • explore career opportunities in the food, agriculture, and business sectors; and
  • learn about mentorship from professionals in the food industry.

Local Entrepreneur Mentorship

The program will feature a video interview with a Saskatchewan food entrepreneur sharing their experiences in the industry. The video will serve as an initial introduction to entrepreneurship and inspire students to come up with a food product business idea.

In addition to the video, students will have an opportunity to connect directly with professionals in the food industry. Several Saskatchewan entrepreneurs (owners of food products/services) are participating in the program as mentors to provide guidance as the students complete their business and marketing plans. The mentors will make themselves available by email so that students can ask questions and consider their advice.

How to Participate

The inaugural offering of Edible Enterprises will be in November 2024. The program will take approximately 5 class periods to complete, including one class period with access to a kitchen.

The deadline to register for this program is Friday, October 18. Space is limited, so register early!
