Pilot Program: The Agri-Environment Kit

Pilot Program: The Agri-Environment Kit

Calling all Environmental Science 20 teachers!

We have been busy updating and improving the Agri-Environment Kit, and now we need your help to test it out!

What is this resource?

The Agri-Environment Kit is a resource specifically designed for Environmental Science 20. It invites students to explore environmental science in an agricultural context and investigate relationships between plants, animals, soil, and people. It’s packed with immersive, hands-on activities that are ready to go, making it easy to use in your classroom!

The Agri-Environment Kit includes 6 lessons on different aspects of environmental science:

  • Soil properties: explore the physical properties of soil and the relationship to water
  • Soil analysis: test soil pH and nutrient levels and learn about soil amendments
  • Living Soil: investigate soil microbial ecosystems and the carbon cycle
  • Seeds: learn about the plant life cycle and how farmers can address diseases
  • Agriculture & Ecosystems: discuss the role of livestock and biodiversity in ecosystem health
  • Sustainable Agriculture: research the technologies that help make agriculture more sustainable

We have designed the Agri-Environment Kit to be flexible and easy to use. The lessons are all self-contained, but complementary. This means they can each be used on their own and in any order. When used together they support a strong, well-rounded understanding of environmental science and agriculture.

What is the pilot program opportunity?

Your input is needed! We are looking for Environmental Science 20 teachers who can test this resource in their classroom.

The pilot program will run from May 5 to June 6, 2025.

Teachers who participate will try all 6 lessons, including the new lessons on living soil and agriculture, and ecosystems. Each lesson will take about 2–3 class periods. (You do not need to complete all 6 lessons to participate in the pilot, but you will be expected to complete at least 3.)

You will also help us refine the resource by providing feedback about what worked for your class, what didn’t work, and what your students thought about the activities.

Participating teachers will receive a $150 honorarium for their time.

To find out more about this opportunity and to sign up for the pilot program, please email Educational Resource Coordinator Sydney Boulton at sydney@aitc.sk.ca. The deadline to sign up for the pilot program is April 25, but please reach out as soon as possible so you can claim your spot.
